ARMC Tobacco Cessation Department

December 2022 Issue

Currently, the Tobacco Cessation Department at Anaheim Regional Medical Center (ARMC) serves over 3,700 people who want to quit smoking each year. On average, this means the department helps 10 people quit smoking every single day. With a staff of 11 and services offered in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, and Farsi, the Tobacco Cessation Department has come a long way since 2003, when it was first established at ARMC.

The best Christmas gift is to realize how much you already have.

12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS

Being grateful this holiday is one way to welcome the season of giving. In this challenge, you will be asked to keep records of everyday, small activities we should be grateful for.

The Opioid Epidemic & Smoking

The CDC states that an opioid was involved in 75% of the 92,000 overdose deaths that took place in 2020. The non-medical use of prescription opioids is influenced by smoking. Adults who smoke regularly are three times more likely to report non-medical prescription opioid use in the last year. Smoking and pain are strongly related to one another. 85 percent of people receiving treatment for opiate addiction use cigarettes. Nicotine may increase opioid medications' rewarding effects on the nervous system. As a result of this, a cycle of nicotine addiction and potential opiate usage is created. Support your patients and loved ones by preventing cigarette smoking which is often associated with potential opiate use.
